Dog bites are a serious problem that threatens public health and safety. The number of dog bites continues to rise with children and adult males most often suffering injuries. Over 4.5 million Americans are bitten by dogs each year, and one out of five require some form of hospital treatment. In 2006 alone, over 31,000 victims of animal attacks required reconstructive surgery as a result of their injuries. Our Orange County dog bite attorneys have defended many injured clients and a good number of them have been dog bite victims. Dog attack lawyers know first hand how painful and traumatic a dog attack can be, particularly to young children, who are frequent victims. If you or a family member has been bitten, you may be able to recover damages. It’s important to contact a reputable dog bite attorney to discuss your options.

– Food Poisoning

Foodborne illness, more commonly known as “food poisoning” can ruin more than just a nice dinner out. The sickness associated with foodborne illness is caused by different disease-causing microbes, or pathogens so food poisoning may be the more accurate term. These microbes contaminate food and cause a myriad of foodborne infections. In addition, poisonous chemicals, or other harmful substances can cause foodborne diseases if they are present in food.

– Mercury Poisoning

Most people are familiar with mercury in its most common form, the household thermometer. The truth is, most thermometers now use pigmented alcohol instead of mercury. Mercury in its most natural form is slightly toxic, but its vapor, compounds and salts are highly toxic. This toxicity causes brain and liver damage when ingested, inhaled or contacted. This is due to the fact that mercury is a bioaccumulative toxin that is easily absorbed through the skin, respiratory and gastrointestinal tissues.

Silverthorne Attorneys recognizes that whiplash can, in fact, be a serious debilitating injury for many people. We strive to help clients obtain the compensation they need for medical treatment and lost wages.

– Wrongful Death

Wrongful death occurs when a person loses their life due to the negligent, accidental or intentional acts or omissions of another person. The death can be the result of many types of incidents or accidents including a traffic collision (pedestrian, bicycle, motorcycle, car, truck, train, airplane, boat), a vicious dog attack, nursing home abuse, product defects, workplace safety violations and other dangerous conditions such as slip and falls. – Bicycle Accident

Silverthorne Attorneys notes any bicycle accident could potentially result in serious injuries; damage that could affect a person for the rest of their life. Similar to motorcycle accidents, bicycle accident victims have very little to protect them during a crash. After impact with a vehicle, there really isn’t much guarding a cyclist from the possible crushing force of other vehicles, pavement, curbs, trees, and mailboxes. People who are involved in bicycle accidents tend to suffer from broken bones, head trauma, internal injuries, spinal cord injuries, crushed limbs, and road rash. – Uninsured Motorist Litigation

Being involved in an automobile accident is a traumatic event. The injuries, both physical and emotional take time to heal. Being involved in an automobile accident where you have injuries and the other driver has little or no insurance to help in your recovery, can be tragic. Even though every driver in California is required by law to have insurance, not every driver does. To aid the public in recovering from accidents with uninsured or underinsured drivers, California has an uninsured motorist law that was created to offer specialized insurance coverage for these situations.

– Defective Brake

Silverthorne Attorneys routinely handles car accidents caused by defective brakes. Even with advanced technology and improvements, the experts at Silverthorne Attorneys handle dozens of cases where people are killed or injured every year in accidents attributed to defective brakes.

– Defective Car Seat

Car seats are a requirement for new parents; so much so that some hospitals give them out when a baby is born. These car seats are designed to protect the most delicate lives, but most importantly they are designed to protect those that cannot protect themselves. Even though car seats are supposed to shield children from injuries that could result from car accidents, from March of 1998 until May of 2001, four major manufacturers of child safety seats announced five recalls involving nearly 10 million car seats.

– Defective Crib

Mandatory crib standards include more rigorous safety testing. It bans the manufacture and sale of traditional drop-side cribs with side rails that move up and down to make it easier to place and remove infants. The movable rails can become partially detached, creating a gap between the mattress and rail where babies can get stuck. Dozens of injuries and deaths including suffocations linked with drop-side cribs led to the ban; millions of such cribs have been recalled.

– Defective Product

As consumers,
we are not informed of the manufacturing or distribution practices of the products we purchase. We operate at a disadvantage because we have no control over how our products are made, what components are used and the people involved in the manufacturing and distribution processes. Because of this, the manufacturer is responsible if the product is defective, even if the manufacturer was not careless in making that product. This is called strict liability.

– Defective Stove

The oven, stove, or range is one of the most common household items and it is also one of the most dangerous items in the kitchen. Due to defective designs ovens have injured many people (mostly children) by tipping over. Hundreds of children have been burned or crushed by our stoves according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. A small amount of pressure put on an open oven door, as from a climbing child, may result in enough leverage for a stove to pitch forward. There is still an estimated 45 million homes that have stoves without an anti-tip device. Some of those being entire apartment complex communities. Silverthorne Attorneys wants to put an end to this epidemic of people getting injured or killed by this common item. If you or someone you know has been injured by a defective oven, stove, or range, give us a call.

– Defective Tire

Michelin North America Inc. says its lease fleet customers complained that some of the tires had lost air rapidly during use as retreads over the past two years, prompting a company investigation. It did not cite any instances of crashes. Silverthorne Attorneys notes that fleet cars mean Rental Cars. If you use rental cars, take note of the tires they use on any rented vehicle. If it is one of the many recalled or warning branded tires, stay away and get a different vehicle. Rental companies are notorious for sending out all manner of vehicles that have recall items and parts…without having the parts repaired or replaced as ordered by the manufacturer or the government. Our tire recall attorneys have familiarity with such cases and warn caution.

– Mesothelioma

Unfortunately, the word asbestos has become permanently associated with the word mesothelioma and not insulation. The mesothelioma type of cancer was extremely rare until the mainstream use of asbestos in the 20th century. With the explosion of cases of mesothelioma, medical researchers began investigating the disease and its possible causes. In 2009, the International Agency for Research on Cancer confirmed that asbestos exposure is the foremost cause of mesothelioma and that all forms of asbestos can cause mesothelioma.

– Pharmaceutical Litigation

Birth defects can be caused by genetic factors, the passing on flawed genetic material from mother or father to an unborn child. But, birth defects may also be caused by environmental hazards such as drugs and toxins. These drugs and toxins can also have what is known as a teratogenic effect. A teratogen is any substance to which a pregnant female is exposed that may cause physical defects in the developing embryo or fetus and result in a birth defect.

– Vaginal Mesh

Negative side effects brought about by the implantation of the transvaginal mesh patch were first openly discussed in the New England Journal of Medicine in May 2011. The New England Journal of Medicine study measured the effectiveness of the patch compared to that of the traditional treatment, colporrhaphy. Colporrhaphy consists of stitching connective tissue in the vaginal wall back together rather than introducing a foreign substance. The study found a marked difference in the prognosis of patients who underwent the implantation of transvaginal mesh and patients who underwent the more traditional colporrhaphy.

– Nursing Home Abuse

Nursing home abuse occurs in two different ways. It can be an intentional act or simple neglect. An intentional act can be financial abuse, emotional mistreatment, physical assault, or even a sexual attack. Neglect can include not providing proper care that leads to an overdose, falls, infections, bedsores, bruises, burns, bed railing injuries, dehydration, skin ulcers, administration of improper medication, septicemia, gangrene, decubitus ulcers, and osteomyelitis.
